Known as Foo dogs or (Fu Dogs) are traditional symbols of protection. Hand carved in stone in the early 20th century c1920 this matched Chinese pair are in very good solid condition, the later paint is flaky in places. Both have stone balls in their mouths, the male paw rests on a ball symbolising earth and unity of the Chinese Empire, the female symbolises protection. Height 47cm width 18cm depth 23cm deep. Very heavy items.
